Barkha Necklace with Barkha Raqs Earrings

Barkha means rain in Hindi, and this necklace arrives the way the monsoon does, suddenly, abundantly and carrying every colour the earth holds. A broad Jadau choker band is embedded with emerald, ruby, sapphire, moonstone and tourmaline cabochons scattered across a granulated gilded matrix, each stone a raindrop of a different colour falling without pattern or plan. Flat polki stones are pressed between them, catching light like water on stone. At the centre, a hexagonal polki pendant bridges the band to a large carved emerald teardrop below, the monsoon's final, most generous drop.Raqs means dance in Urdu, and the Barkha Raqs earrings dance the way rain does, freely and with colour. A cluster of multi-gem Jadau work forms the body of each earring, emerald, ruby, sapphire and moonstone gathered together in granulated gold. Polki stones punctuate the composition with flashes of light between the colour. A carved emerald teardrop hangs at the base of each earring, swaying with every movement, one last raindrop that cannot quite decide whether to fall or to dance.
