Karini Blooms

Karini in Sanskrit means the graceful female elephant, the quiet leader of the herd, and these Kashmiri earrings carry that same quality of unhurried authority. A round ruby cluster stud bordered in seed pearls opens the composition, its deep red centre warm and deliberate. Below it, a large circular medallion of deep green meenakari work unfolds, its surface alive with gold scrollwork and polki accents, the whole disc ringed in seed pearls like a garden seen from above. Two elephant figures flank the medallion base, their presence rare and auspicious, guardians of everything the earring holds. A ruby teardrop hangs between them before giving way to a fringe of ghungroo bells and long gilded chains that descend with the same unhurried grace as Karini herself, certain of where she is going and in no particular hurry to arrive.
