Surkh Parcham Earrings

Surkh means red in Persian and Parcham means a banner or flag, something unfurled with intention and carried with pride. These Kashmiri earrings are exactly that, a proclamation worn at the ear. A deep ruby cabochon teardrop sits at the top within a star-tipped gilded frame, its colour the red of something that has decided to be seen. Below it, an engraved gilded bar hung with small ghungroo bells forms the first tier, its surface chased in traditional Kashmiri motifs. A four-petal Kundan flower medallion on a white meenakari ground follows, its pavé border catching light from every angle. From there, four gilded chains descend with graduated ghungroo beads, the banner finally unfurling to its full length before arriving at a fully engraved jhumka dome finished with a fringe of cultured pearls, the quietest note in a very loud and beautiful composition.
